Many homes and businesses in this village were destroyed after the massive 2015 earthquake. Income from tourism ceased, causing severe financial hardship to this region. They have since rebuilt their economy and infrastructure with tourists now returning to this stunning region.

A special feature of this trek is a visit to the sacred Hindu Gosainkunda Lakes region where a large number of pilgrims visit in August of each year. This area is also important to Buddhists who visit the famous Kyanjin Gompa (Buddhist monastery). The trek starts at Syabru Besi Village and then heads over high alpine pastures where Yaks are grazing. The trail also passes through thick forests before coming to Kyanjin Gompa. A short trek up to Kyanjin RI (peak), offers a striking 360-degree view of the Himalayan Mountains before we have to head down the trail through the valley and then take a bus back to Kathmandu.
