A trek in the Nar Phu Valley may have you feeling like you have stepped back in time to this remote region of Nepal.
This trek takes you to unspoiled villages rich in Tibetan culture, towering peaks, deep valleys and high altitude passes - and fewer trekkers. The pristine wilderness will satisfy the more adventurous trekker. Wedged between the famed Annapurna and Manaslu regions the Nar Phu valley has some fascinating views of several massive peaks: Gangapurna (7455m), Annapurna II (7937m), Himlung Himal (4900m), and Tilicho Peak (7134m).
The trail to Nar Phu Valley exposes you to ancient unspoiled Tibetan villages rich in history and conventional Buddhist life. The predominantly Mongolian people will enchant you, with their genuinely friendly smiles and warm hearts as you stop at tea houses and lodges in the region. The green alpine pastures where yaks graze are in blunt contrast to the surrounding scenery and soaring mountains. This is a mostly Buddhist region where you will see many chortens (Buddhist shrine/monument), Gompas (monastery or temple), mani walls (stone walls that form a 6 symbol prayer), and the Tashi Lhakhang Buddhist monastery in Marpha Village.
The Nar Phu Valley trek can be physically challenging in places due to some steep uphill trails, high altitudes, and narrow rocky trails. The trail takes you via lush forests and arid landscapes surrounded by magnificent peaks looming right before your eyes. Along the trail, you will suddenly drop into some hidden valleys with their distinct style of stone buildings and Tibetan-style architecture.
